My First Fashion Article

I hope you will be able to access the link. Will try to post it up as an image shortly. Was recently asked by reputable travel magazine in Thailand, Lookeast, to write a piece on current and upcoming fashion trends in Bangkok. Thais are exremely fashion conscious but it’s not all about labels or brand names here. They are truly generating a community of home grown designs with a distinct liking for vintage trends.

“I Believed in My Instinct” – Anna Wintour

Watch as fashion’s global icon engages us in the timeline of Vogue magazine. Notice she also listens to her gut instinct. Keep listening all and write down whatever you hear. :)

2012 – Seeing Next Year In Retrospect

So, I just thought this would be an interesting activity for everyone. With the end of the year around the corner – fleeting thoughts of what has been achieved or not achieved go through our minds. Why can’t we stick to our goals? Are we too complacent? Fearful?

What if we look at the whole of next year in retrospect? Imagine that it’s already been done – what would it look like for you? An even better idea is to see yourself accomplished next year and work backwards to see what steps were taken to get there. I’m suddenly getting excited at the possibilities! Would be great to hear your thoughts.

Luxury-Obsessed Asia

I recently read a quote by the esteemed Christian Dior that went something like this, “It’s not money that makes you well-dressed, it’s understanding”.  After my few months living in Hong Kong, I have started to wonder if there is an appreciation to this thought. With the Ferragamos, YSLs and Chanels lavishly highlighting the city center, it’s hard to believe that you can’t be caught dead without any of these branded baubles.  But, how much can one really bestow on themselves without screaming OTT?? Then again, if everyone seems to aspire to these extravagances, it may be their sense of ‘style’. As style can never really be defined and the topic is so subjective – how do you know if one is considered stylish and the other not?  Guess you can never really certify this – depending on your background, your geographic location, etc, etc. What took me by complete surprise last week was when I was happily strolling back to work with my budget coffee after lunch, when I saw a colleague trolling in after me with – hold your breath – yes, a Louis Vuitton shopping bag. Mind you, it was a small bag – hence, small purchase. Yet, my understanding is if I’m only getting paid the amount I am (yes, I’m going to be discreet), then how the hell is this girl able to bag herself – a bag..by LV?!?! And, here came the explanation – no high-flying dining, minimal clothes shopping, barely-there lunches and yes, no painting the town red. Dammit. Really? And, if I were to do all that – I would be able to skip back like a lil girl from lunch with that swinging from my arm? Ok – if you say so. But, could I ever do it? Miss out on great food, nights out with the girls…NO drinking?! Not even my glass of wine at dinner. Well, there wouldn’t be any dinner to begin with I suppose. This is beyond me. And, so what then? You’ve got your bag – what comes next? Saving for the next one? Please. Someone pass me  a lychee martini – like, now. I’m going out dancing…and, I’m happily tucking my black Zara bag under my arm. Sexy, functional and I didn’t kill myself trying to get it. :)

Radha Chada Genius

Wow – funny enough – there is a book on this exact topic. “The Cult of the the Luxury Brand: Inside Asia’s Love Affair with Luxury” by Radha Chadha. I’m sure there’s some great insight in there – anyone read
